What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use another app's tools. An app publishes an MCP server, and you add it to your assistant, often called adding a connector. After that you can ask in plain words ("cut this interview into three vertical clips with captions") and the assistant calls the app's tools to do it. You stay in charge: you review what it made and decide what to keep.
Some servers are hosted: you paste a web address into your assistant and sign in to your account. Others run locally on your computer next to a desktop app, such as Cinema 4D, Cavalry or Palmier Pro.

How to get started
- Check your assistant. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and many coding tools can add MCP servers or connectors, usually in a Connectors or MCP section of their settings. Some need a paid plan or a developer setting turned on.
- Pick one app you already use. Start with the tool your work already lives in, so the assistant is working on your real projects.
- Add the server and sign in. Follow the vendor's setup page (linked under each tool above). Hosted servers ask you to sign in to your account; local ones are switched on inside the desktop app.
- Check the plan. Several vendors list MCP only on some plans (for example OpusClip Pro, FLORA Starter and Riverside Grow and above), and usage generally draws on your plan's credits.
- Start small and review. Ask for one clear task, look at the result in the app, and only then hand over bigger jobs. Several of these apps let you review or undo what the assistant changed.
FAQ
What is an MCP server for video editing?
It is a connection that lets an AI assistant use a video app's tools for you: cut a timeline, make clips, add captions or render. On this page, Eddie AI, Palmier Pro, DaVinci Resolve MCP, Shotstack, Riverside, OpusClip, Klap and Clueso offer one.
Is there an official DaVinci Resolve MCP server?
Blackmagic Design does not list one. DaVinci Resolve MCP is an open-source community server that works through Resolve Studio's scripting API. See the DaVinci Resolve listing for the app itself.
Do Premiere Pro and After Effects have MCP servers?
Adobe's connector for Claude and ChatGPT (Adobe for Creativity) includes some Premiere tools. For After Effects, Adobe lists a built-in AI Assistant (public beta) but no MCP server or external agent interface.
Which of these work with ChatGPT?
Per the vendors' pages: Eddie AI, Shotstack, Riverside, OpusClip, Klap, Clueso, Autograph, Viggle, Adobe for Creativity (as a separate plugin), Picsart, FLORA, Canva and Storyblocks. Cavalry currently supports Claude only, and Photoroom's connector is for Claude.
Do I need to know how to code?
No, for most of them. Hosted connectors such as Canva, Riverside, Storyblocks or Photoroom are added in your assistant's settings and you sign in. Remotion, Shotstack's CLI and DaVinci Resolve MCP are aimed at people comfortable with code or a terminal.
Is MCP access free?
It depends on the tool. Palmier Pro's free plan includes MCP, and Clueso and Storyblocks list MCP on every plan. OpusClip lists it from Pro, FLORA from Starter, Riverside from Grow and Magnific with paid plans. Your assistant may also need a paid plan.
