Summary

Overview

DaVinci Resolve MCP is an open-source Model Context Protocol server that lets an AI assistant operate DaVinci Resolve Studio. It calls Blackmagic’s official Scripting API and adds guarded helpers for editing, media-pool organization, render setup, review markers, grading, Fusion, Fairlight and project tasks. A local control panel and a source-safe media analysis feature are included.

Who it fits

It suits professional editors, colorists and technical creators who already use Claude, Cursor or another MCP client and want to hand repetitive Resolve work to an assistant. It is a community project, so Blackmagic does not make or support it.

What the plans include

The server is free under the MIT license. It needs DaVinci Resolve Studio, because Blackmagic gates external scripting to that edition. The README describes only a limited bridge for the free edition on Resolve 21.0.x.

Limits and alternatives

Setup involves Python and a Resolve preference, and results depend on Resolve’s scripting API. Eddie AI is an assistant editor that round-trips with editors, and Adobe’s connector for Claude and ChatGPT brings Premiere and Photoshop tools to chat.

Who it's for

A good fit if you are…

  • Editors and colorists who want an AI assistant to organize media, build timelines, set up renders and help with grading in Resolve
  • Technical creators who already use MCP clients such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or Codex CLI

Another tool may suit you better if you are…

  • Anyone who wants an official Blackmagic product: this is a community project, not made by Blackmagic
  • Users without DaVinci Resolve Studio, since external scripting is a Studio feature

Pricing

The server is free and open source (MIT license). It needs DaVinci Resolve Studio, which Blackmagic lists at $295. As of Oct 2026, verify.

  • The GitHub repository is published under the MIT license by its maintainer.
  • The README says it works with DaVinci Resolve Studio through the official Scripting API; Resolve's own pricing is covered on the DaVinci Resolve listing.
  • Free-edition support is described as a limited in-app bridge for Resolve 21.0.x, and the README notes Resolve 21.1 moved Python scripting to Studio.
