Summary
Overview
Framefields is an open-source engine for video, image editing and motion graphics that a coding agent drives in TypeScript. It renders on the GPU with WebGPU, so text stays sharp, 3D sits in the same frame as 2D, and more than 50 effects run in one package. An agent can render a grid of frames, check easing and layout, fix problems, and then render the final MP4.
Who it fits
It suits developers and motion designers who want an agent to build titles, product films, charts and effects as code they can keep editing. A local preview player lets you scrub frame by frame and pin notes on the picture for the agent to apply.
What the plans include
The package is free under Apache-2.0 and is made by Gatewai; version 2.2 is in beta. An optional AI Gateway puts more than 100 image, video and audio models behind one key, billed from a prepaid balance at provider cost plus a small margin.
Limits and alternatives
It is a beta developer package, so expect setup and some code. HyperFrames is HeyGen’s open-source framework where an agent writes video as HTML, and Remotion builds video in React. Tesseract by Mirage is a free local engine where an agent edits a native video project with layers and keyframes.
Who it's for
A good fit if you are…
- Developers and motion designers who want a coding agent to build titles, motion graphics, 3D and effects as code
- People who want frame checks and pixel tests for motion work
Another tool may suit you better if you are…
- Anyone who wants a timeline editor with no code
- People who want a finished product rather than a beta package
Pricing
Free and open source under Apache-2.0. Its optional AI Gateway for image, video and audio models is prepaid, at provider cost plus a small margin. As of Oct 2026, verify.

Key features
- WebGPU rendering straight to pixels, with text drawn per pixel so it stays sharp at any size
- 3D in the same frame, with physically based materials, shadows and models from glTF, FBX, OBJ and more
- Image editing and 50+ effects such as curves, LUTs, halftone, film grain and liquify
- On-device detection, segmentation and person mattes, including 16:9 to 9:16 reframing
- Frame grids, stills and Vitest pixel checks so an agent can verify motion before rendering
Integrations: Installs as skills for coding agents and is driven in TypeScript. The optional AI Gateway calls models such as Seedance, ElevenLabs and Nano Banana with one key.
Agent-ready? Yes. Give a coding agent the Framefields skills, then have it write the composition in TypeScript, check frame grids and render the MP4.

Pros and good to know
Drawn from the vendor's own documentation and public sources.
Pros
- Built so a coding agent can write a video, check frames and fix issues before rendering
- Free and open source under Apache-2.0
- Video, image editing, 3D, charts, Lottie and sound in one package
- Lower memory per worker than headless-browser rendering, per Framefields
Good to know
- Version 2.2 is in beta, so features can change
- Needs a coding agent and comfort with TypeScript and a terminal
- AI model generation through the gateway is a separate prepaid cost
Alternatives
- HyperFrames: HeyGen's open-source framework where an AI agent builds a video as HTML and HyperFrames renders it to MP4.
- Remotion: Make videos and motion graphics with React code, render them in bulk, and let coding agents help.
- Tesseract by Mirage: Mirage's free local creative engine that lets an AI agent edit video, build motion graphics and design graphics in an editable project.
