Good for
Anyone who explains how to do something on a computer: a product walkthrough, a training clip, a support answer.
You'll need
A task you can show on your screen, a microphone or a script for an AI voice, and an account with one or two of the tools below. Many have a free plan; a few are trial or paid only, and each tool line says which.
Rough time
About 30 to 60 minutes for a 2 to 3 minute video (a rough estimate).

What you'll end up with

A short tutorial video: your screen, a clear voice explaining each step, and captions so it also works with the sound off. You record once; the tools handle the script, the voice and the tidying.

Start with a task that takes a couple of minutes to show. A short video you finish beats a long one you do not.

Step 1: Write a short outline

Five sentences is enough: what the viewer will be able to do, then the steps in order. One message per video. A writing assistant can tidy the wording, but you own the message.

  • Grammarly Free planWriting assistant that checks grammar, clarity and tone across apps, with generative AI features on paid plans.

Step 2: Record your screen

Close the tabs and notifications you do not need, then walk through the task once at a steady pace. A quick link-sharing recorder is fine for an informal video; the product-demo tools below also turn the recording into something more polished.

  • Loom Free planQuick screen and camera recordings you share by link, with transcripts and AI add-ons on paid plans.
  • Clueso Free planTurns a screen recording, deck or document into a product demo or how-to video, with AI voiceover, captions and step-by-step articles.
  • Descript Free planEdit video and audio by editing a text transcript, with AI tools for filler words, captions, clips and more.

Step 3: Let the tool draft the script, voiceover and captions

Some tools clean up a script from your recording, then add an AI voiceover and captions; others turn text into a narrated animated video. Read the script as the viewer would and fix product names and steps before you generate the voice.

  • Clueso Free planTurns a screen recording, deck or document into a product demo or how-to video, with AI voiceover, captions and step-by-step articles.
  • Powtoon Free planTemplate-based animated explainer and presentation videos with AI video generation.

Step 4: Change the voice if you want a different one

If the voice a tool offers is not the one you want, a dedicated voice tool can produce it from your script. Listen to the whole thing once, with the video, before you export.

  • ElevenLabs Free planAI voice generator with 5,000+ voices in 90+ languages, plus voice cloning, dubbing and music tools.
  • Murf AI Free planAI voiceover platform with studio-quality and low-latency text-to-speech, voice changer, translation and dubbing.
  • Fish Audio Free planAI text-to-speech and voice cloning with a free tier, plan credits and developer extras.

Step 5: Trim, zoom and export

Cut dead time, zoom in where the action is small, and add captions. Some tools also produce a written step-by-step version of the same video, which is useful for a help page.

  • Clueso Free planTurns a screen recording, deck or document into a product demo or how-to video, with AI voiceover, captions and step-by-step articles.
  • Kapwing Free planBrowser video editor with subtitles, clip maker, resizing, dubbing and AI tools, priced per workspace member.
