Good for
Anyone who needs a short video about an idea, a product or a process and would rather not film it.
You'll need
A script of about five sentences and an account with one or two of the tools below. Many have a free plan; a few are trial or paid only, and each tool line says which.
Rough time
About 45 to 90 minutes for a 60-second video (a rough estimate).

What you'll end up with

A short video of about a minute in which an avatar presenter or an animated scene delivers your message, with a voice, music and captions. Nobody needs to be filmed.

The script does most of the work. Spend your time there, and the rest is mostly choosing options.

Step 1: Write a five-sentence script

One message, spoken aloud in about a minute: the problem, the idea, how it works, the result and one thing you want the viewer to do. Read it out loud once and cut anything you stumble on.

  • Notion AI Free trialAI inside Notion for drafting, summarising and searching your docs, included in Business and Enterprise plans.

Step 2: Choose how it looks

A presenter video uses an AI avatar that reads your script. An animated explainer uses templates, characters and text on screen. A design tool is a good fit if you already work in slides or social templates.

  • HeyGen Free planCreate AI presenter videos from a script using stock or personal avatars in 30+ languages.
  • SynthesiaAI video platform: avatar presenters, text-to-video, dubbing and translation for training and comms.
  • Powtoon Free planTemplate-based animated explainer and presentation videos with AI video generation.
  • Canva Free planTemplate-first online design tool for social posts, presentations, video and logos, with Magic Studio AI on paid plans.

Step 3: Choose the voice

Most tools in the step above include voices. If you want a different one, generate it separately from your script and bring it in. Keep the pace unhurried.

  • ElevenLabs Free planAI voice generator with 5,000+ voices in 90+ languages, plus voice cloning, dubbing and music tools.
  • Murf AI Free planAI voiceover platform with studio-quality and low-latency text-to-speech, voice changer, translation and dubbing.

Step 4: Add music and captions

Keep music low enough that the voice stays clear, and add captions for viewers watching muted.

  • Uppbeat Free planRoyalty-free music, sound effects and stock video for creators, with an AI playlist search; it does not generate music.
  • SoundrawAI background-music generator where you choose mood, genre and length, then edit sections of the track.
  • Epidemic Sound Free trialSubscription library of human-made music and sound effects, with AI search, Studio and Adapt tools but no AI-generated music.
  • CapCut Free planTemplate-driven video editor with AI features, free to start, with a Pro plan for premium templates and AI credits.

Step 5: Watch it with the sound off, then on

Do the captions and visuals carry the message without sound? With sound, is the voice clear and the pacing comfortable? Fix what you notice, then export.
