Summary

Overview

Diffio does one job: it restores the speech in a recording you already have. Think of an interview in a loud lobby, a guest calling in from a kitchen, a lecture in a reverberant hall, or an old broadcast full of hiss. You upload the file, choose the faster Flash model or the slower Pro model, and switch between the original and the restored version as it plays. Video files keep their picture, and only the speech track is restored.

The free trial is a one-time allowance of three uploads, and you can only preview the first two minutes of each result. To download results you need Basic or Pro, which are sold by hours of audio a month. Developers can use the same models through a REST API that is billed per second, separately from the web plans.

Diffio restores speech but doesn’t edit or level it. If you also need loudness targets or transcript editing, pair it with a tool such as Auphonic or Descript. Results depend on the source recording, so try one of your own difficult clips before you choose a plan. Check Diffio’s pricing page for current figures.

Who it's for

A good fit if you are…

  • Podcasters, interviewers and lecturers with recordings that can't be made again
  • Developers who want to add speech restoration to their own product through an API

Another tool may suit you better if you are…

  • Live noise suppression during calls or streams (it processes uploaded files, not real time)
  • Music mastering or full audio editing
